Abuse of Elderly People -It's Not OK!
The physical and even sexual abuse of children has been much in the news of late. However, there is another group of Australians who are also subjected to abuse. There is growing evidence of abuse of older people in our society - mostly financial and/or psychological abuse - with the perpetrators most likely to be adult sons or daughters. Our commentator in Learning Works this week is Marilyn Crabtree, Chief Executive Officer of the Aged Rights Advocacy Service in South Australia.

The bushranging era in Victoria continues to fascinate many Australians. And the life and times of Ned (Edward) Kelly is no exception. In Learning Works this week, Tony Ryan speaks with Jock Murphy, the Collection Services Manager at the State Library of Victoria, which holds a display of Ned Kelly’s armour, and also the Jerilderie Letter with its very long and fascinating first hand account of the events of that time. Refugees and Transcultural Health
This week in Learning Works, an extended interview with Dr Jill Benson, Director of the Health in Human Diversity Unit, Discipline of General Practice at The University of Adelaide. As well as her work in remote South Australia with indigenous communities, Dr Benson has also worked in several overseas countries and is a member of the Board of STTARS (Survivors of Torture and Trauma Assistance and Rehabilitation Service). In 2005 she worked as a locum at a teaching hospital in Dharan in eastern Nepal. She teaches other GPs, students, health professionals and the general public on psychological topics and transcultural health. This extended interview would be of special interest in adult community education centres and in our schools, and will soon be available in full on the Learning Works website.
