Creating Workforce Diversity
In order to better orientate business and industry towards a more flexible workplace and a more diverse workforce, the implications of an ageing workforce are explored, along with the benefits that attracting, recruiting and retaining older workers can bring to an organization. Professor Lowitja O’Donoghue
In our Federal Parliament on Wednesday 13 February 2008, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd began proceedings with these words:
Today we honour the Indigenous peoples of this land, the oldest continuing cultures in human history. We reflect on their past mistreatment. We reflect in particular on the mistreatment of those who were Stolen Generations – this blemished chapter in our nation’s history.
This week in Learning Works, PBA FM is re-broadcasting the 1995 A W Jones Lecture, delivered by (then) Dr Lowitja O’Donoghue, at the University of Adelaide as part of the Annual Conference of the Australian College of Educators. In addition to recounting her own story as a member of the stolen generation, her lecture focused on a need for a new understanding of indigenous Australians. PBA FM wishes to thank Professor O’Donoghue, and also the Australian College of Educators, for permission to re-broadcast an edited version of the 1995 A W Jones Oration, to fit our half hour timeslot.

From homelessness to university
An innovative program in Sydney assists people who have been homeless and who are now recovering from drug and alcohol addiction to make those first steps into tertiary study. Tony Ryan is speaking with Dr Ross Keating, Senior Lecturer in Education at the Mount St Mary Campus of the Australian Catholic University in Sydney.

The railway station that became a church
John Oates from the Australian Railways Historical Society is the author of several books about railways in NSW. In this social history item, he speaks with Tony Ryan about some of the fascinating history of the Mortuary Station that still stands at Central Station in Sydney, and how the former Mortuary Station in Rookwood Cemetery came to be moved to its new home as a parish church in suburban Canberra.
