Animate Quarterly - a project of the SA Writers Centre
Instead of sitting down to read the latest issue of your favourite quarterly
journal or newsletter, how would you like to go along to a pleasant
venue in Adelaide, and see and hear a range of feature interviews, poetry,
short stories, and reviews, all while sitting, drink in hand, with others
with an interest in writing. Well, the South Australian Writers Centre
has come up with this very idea. Called Animate Quarterly, it’s
an opportunity to hear rather than read their quarterly publication.
Bel Schenk is the project officer and newsletter editor at the South
Australian Writers Centre.

In Conversation with Pru Goward - Part 2
In early September, the Federal Sex Discrimination Commissioner Pru
Goward addressed a seminar in Brisbane - organised by the Lifelong Learning
Council of Queensland - on the topic Learning: It's a Journey, not a
Destination. Today the focus is on her work in relation to sex discrimination
and to discrimination on the basis of age - for older workers and also
for younger workers too. This interview was recorded in Sydney on Monday
18 September, by Learning Works's Tony Ryan.

Resilience Revisited - with Anne Deveson AO
"All too often, suicide represents a tragic consequence of failing to diagnose and treat serious mental illnesses. The theme for World Mental Health Day 2006 (Tuesday 10 October), Building Awareness - Reducing Risk: Mental Illness and Suicide, encourages the global mental health community to make reducing the risk of suicide among people with mental illnesses a high priority - recognising that, left untreated, mental illnesses can be fatal and thus they must be addressed as an issue of utmost importance" (From the website of the Mental Health Council of Australia)
In Learning Works this week, our guest is Anne Deveson AO, writer, documentary film maker and former head of the Australian Film Television and Radio School. Her films in Africa and SE Asia have won three UN Media Peace awards. Her book Tell Me I'm Here - about her son's struggles with schizophrenia - won the 1992 Human Rights award for non-fiction.
In this exclusive 30 minute interview with PBA FM's Tony Ryan, Anne Deveson speaks about Resilience, the topic of her 2003 book.

RAW - Real Adventure Women, with Jill Duffield
The program this week features two community organizations interstate
– one in Brisbane and one in Canberra – both illustrating
the importance of opportunities for adult learning in the community.
In Brisbane, Tony Ryan speaks with Jill Duffield, Coordinator of the
Real Adventure Women – or RAW – program for an organization
in Brisbane with an unusual name – at least when you first hear
it – but Communify Queensland is a name that makes sense in the
context of community learning.

ArtUp! - at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre
During a recent visit to Canberra, Tony Ryan visited the Tuggeranong
Arts Centre and joined Community Arts Officer Eulea Kiraly and a team
of enthusiastic amateur actors preparing for a theatre performance in
November.
