Interview with the Honourable Gary Hardgrave MP
Over the past few weeks, in our lead-up to Adult Learners' Week, we've
been hearing various learning journeys. In this exclusive interview
for Adult Learners' Week, the Federal Minister for Vocational and Technical
Education, the Honourable Gary Hardgrave MP tells Learning Works's Tony Ryan
about his own learning journey, from leaving school, working for several
years in commercial radio, then as a mature adult, beginning tertiary
studies, graduating just months before entering Federal Parliament.
The Minister also speaks about adult literacy, adults returning to study,
and the importance of celebrating adult learning especially during Adult
Learners' Week.

Learning Journeys - Program 6 - A Men's Shed in Edinburgh SA
Having recently marked a significant battle during the Vietnam War,
it's appropriate that in Learning Works this week - Adult Learners' Week
- we visit the Peter Badcoe VC Centre near the Edinburgh Air Base in
South Australia and hear about the support given through this centre
to ex-military men and their families, and also to older men from the
wider community. The Centre provides a place for men to meet and talk,
to work together on projects and undertake training in, for instance,
computing. But most importantly it helps to overcome some of the isolation
and loneliness so often felt by older men from many backgrounds.

In Conversation with Pru Goward - Part 1
In early September, the Federal Sex Discrimination Commissioner Pru
Goward addressed a seminar in Brisbane - organised by the Lifelong Learning
Council of Queensland - on the topic Learning: It's a Journey, not a
Destination. In this extended interview with Pru Goward, the focus is
on lifelong learning especially in the workplace. And in Part 2 next
week, the focus is on her work in relation to sex discrimination and
to discrimination on the basis of age - for young workers and also for
older workers too. This interview was recorded in Sydney on Monday 18
September, by Learning Works's Tony Ryan.
